Last Year's Game: Berry squared off against Birmingham-Southern at the Darlington School. The Panthers shut down the Viking offense and exploited their defense by winning 42-0. BSC scored most of their points in the second quarter with two touchdown passes of 37 and 26 yards from Tyson Beacham to Michael Cowan. (Note: Beachem will be on the Vikings' sideline this year as BC's QB coach.) Evan Kasian added another six points on a ten-yard run. BSC added three touchdowns in the other three quarters. Bryce Bailey led the Berry defense with 14 tackles. Anthony Batey added five solo tackles and a tackle for a loss. The Viking defense added two interceptions from Bradley Brown and Jordan Arnett.
Berry Last Week: The Vikings offense exploded past Hendrix 46-24 at home. Dale Jackson led the offense with five touchdown passes to three different receivers. Jackson finished 24-35 passing with 243 yards did not throw an interception. Christopher Lilly led the receiving core with 102 yards on six catches with three touchdowns. Jalen Tuggle rushed the ball for 68 yards on 16 attempts. Jonathan Fisher led the defense for the Vikings with eight total tackles as well as forcing a fumble. Matt Ogle added six tackles with a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss, and Preston Stewart wrapped up five tackles with two being sacks with one a safety. Jackson Putnam led the turnover game with a forced fumble and two interceptions.
Birmingham-Southern Outlook: BSC won at Millsaps, 16-14, last week. The Majors struck first on a two-yard pass, but the Panthers answered 4:08 minutes later with a ten-yard pass from Mickey Courtney to Daniel Lopera. The Majors led 7-6 after a failed PAT. Birmingham-Southern knotted a 35-yard field goal before halftime, and the Panthers also padded their lead to nine after a 13-yard touchdown run by Joe Moultrie. Millsaps scored late in the fourth quarter on a fumble returned for 73 yards by Alex Jackson, who also recorded 17 tackles in the game. Jeff Milner forced the fumble while recording nine total tackles and a sack.
Fast Facts: All three SAA weekly awards will be participating in the game between Berry and Birmingham-Southern. Dale Jackson received the offensive player of the week award and Campbell Harrison earned the special teams honor. Austin Hansard of Birmingham-Southern was the defensive player of the week.
