Men's soccer draws with Rhodes in overtime, 1-1

Box Score

ROME, Georgia -- Berry College and Rhodes College played to a 1-1 tie in two overtime periods on Sunday at Ford Field.

The Vikings moved to 8-6-1 and 2-3-1 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Lynx are now 6-6-3 and 3-1-2.

Berry wasted little time in recording its goal. Daniel Shaw tallied in the fourth minute for the home club. It was Shaw's first goal of the year. Alex Rotoloni picked up the assist on the play.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The Vikings held RC off the scoreboard until the 88:00 mark when Harrison Leeson scored off a pass from Gabe Laurence.

"We started the game well and deserved our lead," said Vikings' Head Coach Richard Vardy. "Rhodes responded strongly and made it a good game. It was tough to give up the equalizing goal, but we showed good spirit and kept pushing in overtime against a very deep squad."

Rhodes held a slight edge in shots (16-15) and corner kicks (4-3). The Lynx had four shots to Berry's two in overtime. The Vikings nearly won the game in the 110th minute, but Zak Wallingford's shot was turned away by a Rhodes defender.

Jon Nelson recorded six saves in contest for BC.

The Vikings close SAA regular season play next Saturday when Sewanee visits on Senior Day.
