Last Year's Game: Berry squared off against Hendrix in Conway, Ark. The Warriors defeated the Vikings, 30-17. Berry's Trevor Price scored the first points of the game with a rushing touchdown halfway through the first quarter. Hendrix retaliated with a safety and a four-yard touchdown pass to pull ahead by two points. For the Vikings, Adam Sandin rushed for a touchdown to regain the lead 14-9. The Warriors scored on another touchdown pass late in the second quarter. Hendrix outscored the Vikings 14-3 in the second half to pull away by 13 points. Berry rushed for 178 yards but tossed four interceptions in the game. Matt Farinella led the defense with 13 tackles and a forced fumble. Drew McCollum corralled an interception for Berry.
Berry Last Week: The Vikings were taken down by Centre in Danville, Ky. by a final score of 44-7. The Colonels took control of the game early with a 21-0 lead at halftime. Centre rushed for two touchdowns and tossed for one on a 14-yard pass. Berry jumped on the board on a 22-yard pass from Dale Jackson to Christopher Lilly. Centre added three touchdown scores in the third quarter, along with a safety. Centre totaled 31 first downs compared to Berry's 17. Lilly had six receptions for 112 yards with a touchdown. Matt Farinella totaled 12 solo tackles, and Anthony Batey collected 10 solo tackles in the game. Kreg Keiffer added seven tackles as well as an interception.
Hendrix Outlook: Hendrix was defeated by Washington University in St. Louis, 59-19, last Saturday. Washington led at halftime 45-10. The Bears scored 24 points on two passing touchdowns, a 44-yard field goal, and a punt returned for a score. Hendrix put points on the board with a one yard run with 7:09 left in the second quarter. Washington added two touchdowns on passes before the half. The Warriors could only add three field goals by Steve Crenshaw in the second half. Crenshaw went a perfect 4-4 on field goals with an average distance of 30 yards. The Warriors only picked up 103 yards through the air, but rushed for 206 yards.
Sophomore Year for Both Teams: Both Berry College and Hendrix College are in their second year in football. Last year the Warriors finished with an impressive 3-7 mark. The Vikings finished 1-9 last season, with the victory being over LaGrange's JV team. This year the Warriors are 1-1 on the road as they come to Rome to face the Vikings who are 1-1 at home with their first win over Washington University, who Hendrix lost to last week. The Vikings are looking to slow down the Warriors running back Dayton Winn, who has rushed for 607 yard this season. Quarterback Seth Power has led the team with 1399 passing yards (350 yards per game). Hendrix has a duo of wide receivers who have averaged over 65 yards per game. On the defensive side of the ball, Broc Smith leads the team with 43 total tackles. Matt Ramirez has 40 tackles, three tackles for a loss, and leads the the team with two interceptions.
