ROME, Ga. – Christian Fulbright led the Vikings with a goal and two assists as Berry College defeated Piedmont, 4-0, on Sunday.

The Vikings improved to 2-0 and the Lions fell to 0-2.

In the 35th minute Josh Hughes scored the first goal to put Berry up by one over Piedmont. Berry held a 1-0 lead at the break.

Berry Head Coach Richard Vardy made adjustments at halftime. "We had an extra day of rest, so when it appeared they were worn down by our passing, we pushed our outside backs up to really use the open lanes out on the wings," said Vardy.

Fulbright scored the second goal off an assist by Caleb Lucas, who managed to weave through four Piedmont defenders before the pass.

"I usually just do what I can to make it to the end line. If the angle permits it I shoot, but on that particular play I drew the defenders and Christian made a great run back post where he could finish it," said Lucas.

Christian Zapata tallied the third goal off an assist by Fulbright. Zak Wallingford netted the final goal off an assist by Josh Fancher.

Logan Hill started in goal and got his second win of the year. Zachary Wroblewski played the second half and made three saves. The duo shared the shutout.

Piedmont goalkeeper Kenneth Hearn recorded six saves and allowed four goals for Piedmont.

Berry led in shots (25-5) and corner kicks (17-1). The Vikings have scored eight goals and held opponents scoreless in their first two games of the season.

Their next game is away at the Sewanee Tournament against St. Olaf Saturday September 7th at 1:30 p.m.
