Volleyball splits on Friday at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Berry College split its two matches on Friday at the Captain's Classic. The Vikings defeated SUNY New Paltz, 3-2, and lost to host CNU, 3-1.

Set scores in the win over New Paltz were 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25 and 15-7. Emily Stromberg recorded 16 digs, and 21 assists for BC. Stephanie Quinn also notched a double-double with 43 assists, and 23 digs. Kelsey Lochstampfor added 10 kills for the silver and blue.

In the CNU defeat, the scores were 20-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 28-26. The Vikings rallied from a four-point deficit in set to tie the score three times before falling in the final set.

Katie O'Rourke, Lochstampfor and Stromberg all had 11 kills for Berry. Lochstampfor had a team high 17 digs and Stromberg also had a double-double with her 14 digs. Quinn passed 39 assists, and Anna Kaeppler contributed 10 kills for the visitors.

"I'm so proud of the fight and the effort that we showed tonight," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "i couldn't ask for a better start of the year. It's going to be a fun season!"

Berry faces Lynchburg at noon and Edgewood at 2 p.m. to close out play at the tournament on Saturday.
