Box Score BIRMINGHMAM, Ala. – Six Vikings had two hits apiece as Berry College closed conference regular season play with a 12-6 win at Birmingham-Southern on Sunday.
Berry improved to 17-22 and 13-8 in Southern Athletic Association competition. The Panthers fell to 27-13 and 16-5.
The Vikings had 15 hits, tying the second most for a game this season. Ben Jernigan (2-1) pitched 4 and a third innings of relief to earn the victory. He allowed four hits and two runs.
Collecting multiple hits for Berry were: Grant Perkins, Stephen Gaylor, Zach Farmer, Will Heard, Dusty Tyson and TC Boyd. Heard drove in three runs, and McGill recorded a triple for the Vikes.
The visiting Vikings trailed 4-0 heading to the third inning. BC, however, plated eight runs and sent 11 players to bat in the frame. BC later added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Birmingham-Southern's defeat dropped the Panthers out of contention for the top-seed in next weekend's SAA tournament. Berry, as the third seed, will play in the number two-seeded Panthers four-team playoff bracket. Millsaps, the number one seed, hosts the other bracket.
SAA tournament games begin on Friday. The winners of the two brackets meet the following weekend at the higher remaining seed in a best-of-three series for the championship.
