Baseball Rally Comes Up Short at BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Berry College lost at Birmingham-Southern, 3-1, in a Southern Athletic Association game on Saturday.

Berry fell to 16-22 and 12-8. The Panthers improved to 27-12 and 16-4.

BC trailed 3-0 heading to the ninth inning. Stephen Gaylor (2-4) tripled to center field to lead off the frame. Ben Jernigan reached on an error and the run scored. Austin Neely walked to put two runners on base. However, Nick Stidham struck out and Kevin Scott then popped up to end the game with the tying run on base.

Christian Champion started and took the loss. Ryan O'Connell, however, pitched five innings of scoreless relief for the visitors. He allowed just one hit and struck out four Panthers.

Gaylor led the Berry offense as he went 2-4. Jernigan doubled in four trips to the plate.

Ralls Pennington started and got the win for BSC. He tossed six innings and scattered four Berry hits.

The Vikings look to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday in Birmingham.
