Box Score ROME, Ga. – Grant Perkins laid down a bases-loaded bunt in the tenth inning to score Kevin Scott and lift Berry College over Oglethorpe, 5-4, on Sunday.
Berry, which took two of three games in the series, improved to 12-11 and 9-3 in the SAA. Oglethorpe dropped to 5-15, 2-7.
Doug Heath went 3-5 for the Vikings with a mini-cycle (single, double and triple) in the game. Alex McGill went 2-5 with a triple. Danny Parry (4-0) hurled the last three innings and got the win.
The Vikings took its first lead, 4-3, after plating three runs in the seventh inning. Oglethorpe, however, responded with a run to knot up the game in the eighth inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Heath hit a grounder to second base. The Stormy Petrels got McGill at second base and could not turn the double play at first base. Dusty Tyson tried to score from second base, but was called out on the rare 4632 double play.
In the bottom of the ninth, Berry loaded the bases again. Pinch hitter Ben Jernigan grounded out to the pitcher to end the threat.
Joey McAlpin (1-3), who pitched in the tenth inning, took the loss for Oglethorpe. Cory Leff went 3-5 with a run and one RBI for OU.
The Vikings will return to action on Tuesday afternoon at Emory University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
