Oglethorpe Takes Game Two in Baseball Series, 6-1

ROME, Ga. – In spite of a three-hit day by Kevin Scott and five innings of one-run ball by Ben Jernigan, Berry's baseball team lost, 6-1, against Southern Athletic Association foe Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels had 16 hits on Saturday afternoon.

Berry fell to 11-11 overall and 8-3 in SAA matchups. Oglethorpe improved to 5-14 and 2-6.

Oglethorpe hit left-hander Ryan O'Connell (1-4) hard in the second, totaling five base hits and four runs. Berry's starting pitcher went four innings and gave up 10 hits and five runs (all earned).

Pitching in relief of O'Connell, Jernigan scattered six hits over the final five frames and struck out one.

Berry's lone run of the afternoon came on Stephen Gaylor's RBI single to second base in the third off Emmett Goodman (1-4). Oglethorpe's right-hander earned his first victory of the season and pitched eight innings and struck out seven.

Nick Manai picked up three hits and two RBIs for Oglethorpe, and Jeff Brothers, Keith Dearden, Cory Leff, Frank Sarno and Vernon Trice each had two hits apiece.

The rubber match of this three-game series will be tomorrow at William R. Bowdoin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
