Hendrix Claims SAA Win Over Vikings

CONWAY, Ark. – In spite of three Stephen Gaylor stolen bases and a seven-inning outing by Ryan O'Connell, Berry's baseball team lost to Southern Athletic Association opponent Hendrix, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.

Berry dropped to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in SAA competition. Hendrix improved to 5-7 and 1-1.

After scoring three runs in the game's first two innings, Hendrix crossed home plate four times in the bottom of the eighth, turning a three-run lead into an seven-run advantage.

Berry's lone run of the day came on a Nick Stidham RBI single in the sixth. Austin Neely had two hits on the day for the Vikings.

For the Warriors, six different players drove in runs. Brandon Smith and Thomas Weber each drove in two on the afternoon.

Making his first college start, O'Connell (0-2) pitched seven innings and allowed four runs (one earned) as he took the loss.

Hendrix's starting pitcher Nick Land (1-1) earned the victory after he tossed seven innings and gave up seven hits and one run with six strikeouts.

Berry and Hendrix will wrap up this three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1p.m. EST.
