Millsaps Takes Game Two of Baseball Series

ROME, Ga. – Berry fell to Southern Athletic Association opponent Millsaps, 21-0, on Saturday afternoon at William R. Bowdoin Field. Millsaps exploded for 12 runs in the seventh and triggered the mercy rule after Berry's T.C. Boyd flew out to left field to end the game.

Berry dropped back to .500 at 9-9 and 6-2 in conference play.The Majors improved to 12-4 and 4-1.

After the two teams played three innings of scoreless ball,Millsaps tallied three runs off Viking starting pitcher Ryan O'Connell (1-3) in the fourth. Six more men would cross the plate over the next two innings as Millsaps eventually knocked the Berry left-hander out of the game. O'Connell finished with 5 1/3 innings pitched and gave up 12 hits and nine runs (five earned).

Leading 9-0 entering the seventh, Millsaps totaled seven hits and 12 runs scored in that half inning alone to stretch its edge out to 21-0.Berry's Grant Perkins notched two base hits on the day.

Keith Shumaker (2-0) tossed a seven-inning, five-hit shutout for MC. He also had three runs, two hits and two RBIs as Millsaps' designated hitter.Millsaps' Stephen Gates tied teammate Kevin Wall with a game-high four hits, and Wall also drove in five runs.

The Vikings will close out its three-game series with the Majors tomorrow afternoon. First pitch in the rubber game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
