Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. -- Bates College defeated Berry College 10-1 and 5-4 in a doubleheader at William R. Bowdoin Stadium on Wednesday.
With the defeat, BC dropped to 3-5. The Bobcats, which took two of three in the series, improved to 2-1.
In the second game, Berry rallied from a three run deficit to tie, 4-4, in the sixth inning. TC Boyd hit a sacrifice fly to score Kevin Scott for the tying tally. Scott had singled to lead off the frame.
Bates plated the eventual winning run in the seventh. Christian Champion allowed a bases-loaded walk that scored Griff Tewksbury.
Yet the Vikings leaded the bases and got the winning run to second base in their half of the inning. With one out, however, Ryan Smith hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
In the first game, Bates scored four runs off of starter Casey Gray and never looked back. Gray pitched one inning and took the defeat.
Berry scored its line run in the fourth inning. Doug Heath reach base on a fielder's choice. A few batters later, he came around on an RBI ground out by Devin Skelton.
The Vikings play at Piedmont on Feb. 26.
