Sharpshooting Berry Bested Oakwood, 80-66

ROME, Ga. -- Chanlir Segarra netted a game-high 27 points as Berry College beat Oakwood University, 80-66, on Tuesday at the Cage Center.

Berry improved to 11-12 for the season and snapped a three-game lising streak. Oakwood dropped to 6-14.

Segarra was 11-17 from the field, made four 3-pointers, and dished seven assists for the home team. Tara Mullinax posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Mel McLean contributed 11 points for Berry.

The Vikings led from start to finish and held a 43-30 lead at halftime. Lindsey Cook made a free throw with 1:57 left to give Berry its biggest lead at 78-60.

Berry shot a season-best 51-percent (32-62) and held the Ambassadors to 37-percent shooting (25-67). The Vikings led in rebounds, 50-31.

"I thought we stuck to our game plan and did what we needed to do to get the win," said Viking Head Coach Stephanie Dunn.

Oakwood forced 21 BC turnovers, which resulted in 22 points. The visitors committed just nine miscues. Christy Harris tallied 19 and Courtney White added 18 for OU.

The contest was Berry's last non-conference game of the season. The Vikings return to SAA action on Friday night when Millsaps visits for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

"When it comes to conference games, we need to defend and shoot well in order to be successful," Dunn said. "We want to finish the regular season on a strong note with two games this weekend."
