Box Score ATLANTA – Freshman Maggie Midkiff had her second straight hat trick as Berry College won at Oglethorpe, 5-1, on Saturday. BC scored three goals in a 3:29 span in the second half to break the game open.
The Vikings, which won its seventh straight match, improved to 14-3 and 6-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. OU dropped to 6-10-1 and 1-6.
Midkiff tallied in the 10th minute off a cross from Molly Johnson. The score remained 1-0 at halftime. Johnson also had thee assists in the match.
The Stormy Petrels, however, knotted the match at 1-1 in the 48th minute. Beatrice Menjor recorded the goal for the home team.
Twelve minutes later, Midkiff pushed the margin to 2-1. She dribbled through OU defenders and beat keeper Sarah Craig (15 saves).
Following an Oglethorpe turnover, Tessa Piety capitalized and scored in the 69th minute and the rout was on. In the 71st minute, Johnson finished off a pass from Midkiff.
Less than one minute later, Midkiff got the hat trick from a Lindsey Williams pass at 71:53. It was her 16th goal of the season.
BC led in shots (38-8) and corner kicks (4-1). Melissa Sanchez stopped two shots and got the win for the Vikes.
Berry opens play in the SAA Championship tournament next Friday in Birmingham, Ala.
