Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Berry College got a late goal, but came up short to Centre College, 2-1, in the Southern Athletic Association Championship match on Sunday.
The Vikings, trailing 2-0, tallied in the 86th minute. Molly Johnson took a corner kick for Berry and Rachel LeRoy scored for BC. The goal was LeRoy's sixth but her second in consecutive days. The assist was the the conference-leading 11th helper for Johnson.
Top-seeded Centre received an early tally from Katie Stevenson off a pass from Alex Combs. The score stayed 1-0 at halftime.
At the 53:00 mark, Morgan Collins scored off an assist from Becca Hinds.
Centre had the advantage in shots (15-9) and corner kicks (6-4). Freshman goalkeeper Melissa Sanchez stopped five shots for in the nets for BC.
Leroy and teammate Lauren Sykora were picked to the SAA All-Tournament team.
"The desire and the determination were there, our legs were not." said Berry Head Coach Lorenzo Canalis. "Nevertheless, we lost to a very good team."
The Vikings (16-4) and Colonels (16-4-2) will not wait and watch on Monday if they are selected to the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships.
