BSC upsets volleyball, 3-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Katie O'Rourke had a season-high 17 kills, but Berry College lost at Birmingham-Southern, 3-2, on Saturday night. Set scores were 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17 and 15-12.

The Vikings dropped to 14-4 and 6-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Panthers improved to 13-4 and 3-3.

The defeat was the first to a conference opponent in nearly 13 months. BC lost at Centre, 3-2, on Sept. 15, 2012.

BC rallied from a six-point deficit to take set two 25-23. In the final set, Berry led early before BSC went ahead at 10-9 and never looked back.

Stephanie Quinn dished 47 assists for BC. Anna Keappler recorded a team-best 23 digs. Kelsey Lochstampfor and Emily Stromberg netted 16 and 12 kills respectively.

BSC's Alex Bothe tied O'Rourke with 17 kills.

"I give a lot of credit to Birmingham-Southern for executing a great game plan today," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "We are looking forward to getting back to work on Monday.

The Vikings play at Maryville College on Wednesday night.
