Box Score 2 ROME, GA. -- The Berry College volleyball team swept two matches--over Millsaps and Piedmont-- at the Cage Center on Saturday.
In the first match, the Vikes bested Millsaps 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-20). Berry outhit the Majors .317 to negative .019. BC clinched at least a share of the SAA regular season championship with the win.
Katie O'Rourke paced the home team with 11 kills and hit .500 for the home club. Emily Stromberg added 10 kills, Stephanie Quinn dished 34 assists and freshman Katie Trucluck recorded a match-best 16 digs.
The Vikings recorded 23 blocks in the match and were led by O'Rourke's five stuffs.
"One of the things we have been focusing on in practice is becoming a better blocking team. I thought that really showed in our first match today," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson.
BC improved to 19-5 and 12-1 in the SAA after the match. Caroline McKey posted a match-high 16 kills for Millsaps (13-14, 6-7).
In the nightcap, the home club won by set scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-21. Kelsey Lochstampfor and Katie O'Rourke both collected 11 kills in the match. BC hit .227 to 0.53 for the Lions. Truluck had 15 digs and Sarah Steffan added 14 digs for the Vikes.
"Today was great to get such positive production out of so many players, and we were thrilled to be able to honor our former players and staff members--as well as our parents--with the 10 years of Berry Volleyball and Parents' Day festivities," added Robinson. "Their support has so much to do with our success on the court, and we appreciate them so much."
With the Piedmont win, BC improved to 20-5 on the season--the sixth time a Viking volleyball team reached the landmark.
Berry hosts Birmingham-Southern on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Vikings will clinch an outright conference championship with a victory.
