Men's soccer blanks Tigers, 3-0

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Three different players scored as Berry College went on the road and shut out the University of the South, 3-0, on Friday night.

Josh Hughes scored the lone goal of the first half in the 43rd minute. Hughes knocked in a penalty kick after a Sewanee foul. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The visitors later got second half goals from David Shaw and Evan Echols. Shaw tallied off an assist from Caleb Lucas in the 72nd minute. Matt Seibassisted Echols in the 83rd minute.

Despite being shut out, Sewanee led in shots 15-12. BC, however, had the edge in corner kicks (3-2).

The Vikings earned their sixth shutout of the season. Logan Hill stopped three shots and earned the win. Holden Foster allowed two goals and made two saves for the Tigers and played the first 77 minutes.

"Tonight we had a good overall performance against a well-coached team," said Berry Head Coach Richard Vardy. "I didn't think there were outstanding individual performances, but we had a great 90-minute effort."

Berry moved to 7-4-2 and 3-0-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. Sewanee dropped to 6-6-2, and 1-3.

Berry plays Methodist on Sunday. The neutral site match is in Greenville, S.C.
