ROME, Ga. – Junior Stephanie Quinn set the Berry College career assist mark as the Vikings defeated Millsaps, 3-1, on Friday night at the The Cage. Set scores were 25-27, 25-11, 25-13 and 27-25. Quinn handed out 52 assists and recorded seven digs in the match.
Berry improved to 11-3, 5-1 in the SAA and Millsaps dropped to 10-4, 4-2.
Freshman Emily Stromberg had 14 kills and 20 digs while sophomore Meredith Hopper picked up 15 kills. For Millsaps, Kasey Laird tallied 13 kills and 12 digs while Raven Scott was credited with eight kills, 20 assists and 10 digs.
The opening set saw a handful of lead changes, but Millsaps ultimately emerged victorious, 27-25. The following set proved to be a different story as Berry zoomed ahead early and won, 25-11. The third set was more of the same as Berry charged ahead on its way to the victory, 25-13.
In the fourth and final set, Quinn made program history as she broke Megan Cheatham's (2006-2009) career assists record. It took her less than three seasons to accomplish the feat. Berry closed out the match with a 27-25 win.
"The story of tonight was ball control. When we served and passed well, we were able to execute offensively," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "When that part of our game struggled, so did our point scoring. I was really proud of the way our team hustled tonight to make something out of broken plays.
"It is fitting that Stephanie broke the career assists record on a night when we hit so well as a team. She consistently gives our hitters great looks and opportunities to score, and tonight was no exception."
Berry will return to the court tomorrow against SAA opponent Birmingham-Southern College at 4 p.m. BSC is 5-0 in conference play.
