WASHINGTON, Pa. – In its second game in as many days, seventeenth-ranked Berry (7-2) lost 3-1 to Allegheny (7-1-1) on Sunday.
In the early going, Berry fell behind as Allegheny's Daivd DelGreco scored on a rebound of a free kick at 6:00. But Berry responded as a Josh Hughes cross to Samer Hajmurad resulted in a goal at 30:35.
"We had a really good first half, created some chances, passed the ball well and defended well," said Berry head coach Richard Vardy. "We played a good 45 minutes."
With the game tied up at halftime, Allegheny took over the game with two goals in the second half. Cameron Olson tallied the tiebreaking score at 58:20 on a free kick. Conor Azevedo then notched another one on an assist from Andrew Miller at 85:33.
"In the second half, we didn't play as well, but we still controlled the game," Vardy said. "Although, we didn't create as many chances as we would've liked. On a different day, we wouldn't have lost 3-1. We played a lot better than we did yesterday."
Berry will conclude its four-game road swing on Saturday when it opens the Southern Athletic Association portion of its schedule against Centre in Danville, Ky., at 7 p.m.
"We don't have a midweek game, which is good so we can just train and practice a few things," Vardy said. "That will give a week to really focus and prepare for our first conference game."
