Berry's women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Emmanuel College Tuesday afternoon in Franklin Springs, Ga.
The Vikings took a quick lead, sweeping the doubles matches. Jenn Tinnell and Alex Sanguily won in the top position, defeating Emmanuel's Christianne Tetley and Olivia Gish 8-1. In the second position, Caitlin Smith and Maggie MacDonald teamed up to beat Molly Smith and Madalena Frausto 8-2, while the tandem of Keri McGinnis and Ali Jackson handed Kristin Porterfield and Jaclyn Klerk an 8-5 defeat.
Berry then went out and picked up five singles points to claim the win. Tinnell and Sanguily won their matches in the top two positions in straight sets, with Tinnell defeating Tetley 6-2, 6-0 and Sanguily beating Molly Smith 6-2, 6-1.
Caitlin Smith and McGinnis went the distance for their wins, with Smith defeating Gish 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 in the third position and McGinnis defeating Porterfield 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the fifth slot. Lib Locket rounded out Berry's wins with an 8-4 pro set win over Klerk in the sixth slot.
Berry is scheduled to return to action Thursday, when it hosts Sewanee at Richards Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
