Panthers Sweep Baseball Doubleheader Saturday

Birmingham-Southern swept a baseball doubleheader from Berry Saturday, defeating the Vikings by scores of 9-2 and 11-1 in Birmingham, Ala.

TC Boyd collected two of Berry's three hits in the opener. He also drove in a run.

Brandyn Jackson drove in Berry's other run, and went 1-for-3 in the first game.

Bruce Maxwell drove in two runs from BSC, going 2-for-4. Austin Justice, David Bourbonnais and Keven Shelton also had two hits for the Panthers.

BSC starter Blake Stevens (3-1) earned the win, allowing just one unearned run in five innings. He allowed two hits, while striking out three batters without walking any.

Trent Hillis (3-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing nine runs on six hits in one and two-thirds innings.

Jackson picked up a team high two hits in the second game for Berry, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Austin Neely drove in Berry's lone run in a 1-for-4 performance, while Bryn Cloer and Will Heard also recorded one hit.

Maxwell was 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored for the Panthers.

BSC starter Lewis Hammond earned the victory. In five and one-third innings, Hammond allowed one run on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters.

Berry starter Casey Gray took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in four and two-thirds innings. He fanned five batters.

The Vikings and Panthers are scheduled to wrap up the three-game series Sunday.
