Box Score 3 Berry's softball team won two out of three games Sunday at the Rhodes Lynx Softball Tournament in Memphis, Tenn., thanks in large part to a pair of solid pitching performances by Caillee Shamoun and a power surge from Lacey Herring and Krista Woody.
The Vikings defeated Maryville 6-0 and split two games with host Rhodes, falling 3-1 in the first contest that began Saturday before being suspended due to darkness, before rebounding for an 8-1 win in a regularly scheduled contest.
Against Maryville, Shamoun tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out six batters in the process.
The Vikings pounded out seven hits against the Scots, including home runs by Herring and Woody.
Herring went 2-for-3 at the plate against Maryville, with a double accounting for her other hit, and scored twice. Woody was also 2-for-3, with her home run driving in three runs.
Kristen Stoll drove in two runs in the Maryville game.
The Vikings added stellar defense to Shamoun's pitching mastery and the team's power offense, playing errorless ball throughout the game.
In the first game against Rhodes, Andrea Cole took the loss after allowing five hits in the contest. The game picked up in the top of the third inning after it was suspended the previous evening.
Stoll drove in Berry's lone run in the contest, plating Jessica Washington.
In Sunday's regularly scheduled game against Rhodes, Shamoun again tossed a complete game, surrendering just four hits.
Herring led Berry's offensive charge with a 3-for-4 performance that included a two-run homer, a single and double. She drove in four runs and scored twice.
Washington and Woody were both 2-for-4, with Washington picking up a pair of doubles and scoring twice and Woody driving in a pair of runs.
Sara Vigue was 2-for-2 with a single, an RBI and two runs scored.
The Vikings are scheduled to return to action March 3-7 at the NTC Classic in Clermont, Fla.
