Men's Soccer Heading to SAA Finals

Birmingham, Ala. -- Berry College shut out Oglethorpe, 3-0, in an SAA semifinal match on Saturday. The win puts the second-seeded Vikings against top seed Centre on Sunday in the SAA Championship game.

Christian Fulbright scored in the 38th minute for BC. Tyler Jennings earned the assist on the play. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The Vikings got second half tallies from Zak Wallingford (49:55) and Caleb Lucas (59:55) to seal the match.

Berry's defense produced its  tenth shutout of the season. Logan Hill played the full 90 minutes for BC. He got the win grabbed three saves. 

Berry led in shots, 19-9. OU had the edge in corner kicks, 6-5.

"I thought we played really well today and that was one of the best performances our program has had in the past few years," said Berry Head Coach Richard Vardy. "Everyone did their roles and performed well."

Frank Petersen had seven saves in goal for Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels upset ended its season at 9-7.

Berry (14-3-1) plays in the inaugural SAA championship at 2 p.m. EST tomorrow.

"We are looking forward to playing Centre," Vardy said. "We lost at their place, 1-0, but that was great soccer by both sides. If we play like we did today, I like our chances. It will be the third game in three days for both sides. I think Centre and us had chances to rest some players today, however."
