Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Berry College volleyball team left nothing to chance on Saturday.
Had Millsaps swept Berry in three sets, or won convincingly in four sets, the Majors would've taken the top spot. Anything less and Berry would win the title.
Yet Berry put an exclamation mark by winning at Millsaps, 3-1.
Berry improved to 19-5 and 12-1 in SAA play. The Vikings also stopped Millsaps' nine match winning streak. The Majors fell to 19-5 and 12-3.
Kelsey Lochstampfor posted a match-best 16 kills for Berry. Stephanie Quinn had another strong all-around game with 51 assists and 24 digs. Gretchen Kaufman added 10 kills (with just one error on 17 attempts) and four blocks.
"I can't think of a better way to wrap up regular-season conference play," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "It was a highly competitive match and like both teams brought their 'A-game.' There was great fan support for both teams: we had both Berry soccer teams here to support us on their day off, which was fantastic. Our team has worked hard all season to finish the way we did today. We are excited to bring the first ever SAA tournament to The Cage and to our home fans."
As the top seed and regular season champion, Berry will host the inaugural SAA tournament. The event is Nov. 2, 3 and 4 at the Cage Center.
Next up, however, is the Berry College Volleyball Invitational. The tournament is next Friday and Saturday at the Cage Center. The Vikings last match on Saturday will also feature senior day recognition.
