Cougars Score in 89th Minute To Claim 1-0 Win Over Berry

Averett's Frantz Joinvil scored with just over a minute-and-a-half left to play in regulation to give the Cougars a 1-0 victory over Berry Saturday in Axton, Va.  The loss came almost a year to the day since the last time Berry was defeated.

"It was a scrappy game," Berry head coach Richard Vardy said.  "Both teams had several chances to score."

Berry attempted one more shot than the Cougars, with six of the Vikings' 14 shots on target.  Matt Majestic took four of Berry's 14 shots.  Averett took 13 total shots, including four on goal. 

Berry goalkeeper Kevin Madigan finished with three saves.

The loss was the first for Berry since falling 1-0 at Mississippi College on Sept. 11, 2010.  Since then, Berry put together a 16-0-1 heading into Saturday's game.

The Vikings will be back in action Sunday at Guilford.
