Berry Defeats Oglethorpe 10-4 In Final Home Game

Cory Pitts drove in three runs in his final game at William R. Bowdoin Field to help lead Berry to a 10-4 victory over Oglethorpe Friday evening.

Pitts, Cason Dremann, Brandyn Jackson and Madison Moss each tallied a pair of hits in the game and the Vikings put together back-to-back big innings to seal the win.

Berry trailed 1-0 before scoring four times in the fourth inning and adding five runs in the fifth to blow the game open.  The Vikings sent eight runners to the plate in the fourth and 10 the next inning.

After Oglethorpe put two runs on the board in the top of the sixth, Berry scored once more in the bottom half of the sixth on Jackson's RBI double.

The Vikings and Petrels both finished with 10 hits in the game.  Jake Spear led Oglethorpe at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Cameron Rich (6-1) earned the victory for Berry, which won for the 10th time in the past 13 games.  Rich allowed three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out five batters in 5 2/3 innings.

Elliott Alexander and TJ Page each tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief for Berry.  Alexander allowed one runs on three hits while striking out two batters.  Page gave up one hit and struck out one in a scoreless effort.

Emmett Goodman took the loss for Oglethorpe.  The starter allowed four runs (three earned) in four innings of work.

Berry and Oglethorpe will close the season Saturday with a doubleheader on the Oglethorpe campus.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Notes: Prior to the game, Berry honored six players who were playing in their final game at William R. Bowdoin Field.  Scott Pollock, Travis Blackburn, Isaac Hardee, Madison Moss and Elliott Alexander are all seniors, while Cory Pitts, who is classified as a junior in athletic eligibility, will graduate this year.
