Maryville Hands Vikings 5-3 Loss Saturday

Box Score

Kyle Cyprysiak's bases-clearing double highlighted a four-run fifth inning as Maryville defeated Berry 5-3 Saturday in Maryville, Tenn.

The Vikings became the first team to put a run on the board when TC Boyd delivered a one-out double down the right field line that scored Travis Blackburn from first base in the fifth inning.

But Maryville would do the bulk of its offensive damage in the bottom half of the same frame, scoring four times with two outs.  Cyprysiak's three-run double was followed by a single by Myles Cordell and an RBI single by Aaron Johnson that put the Scots ahead 4-1.

Maryville would add another run in the seventh, when Cordell singled up the middle to score Mikee Moore.

The Vikings would make things interesting with two runs in the eighth, as Madison Moss scored from third when Maryville catcher Josh Anderson's errant pickoff throw to third was wild and Thomas Johnson singled up the middle to score Cory Pitts.

Each team collected nine hits in the game, with eight different Berry players getting at least one, including Boyd, who was 2-for-4.  Cordell led the Scots at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance.

Robert Brown (5-4), the first of six Maryville pitchers to appear in the game, earned the win.  He allowed one run on three hits in five innings of work.

Berry starter Casey Gray (4-4) took the loss.  He allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.  He fanned three batters.

Berry's Jonathan Stump allowed one run in 1 1/3 inning of work, while Daniel Boccella and TJ Page each tossed one shutout inning.

Berry returns to action Tuesday at Covenant.
