No. 6 Berry Starts Conference Play with Two Wins

SEWANEE, Tenn. - No. 6 Berry Softball took two games against their opening SAA opponent Sewanee on the road with an 11-0 shutout and a 10-1 defeat over the Tigers.

Game One (Berry 11 - Sewanee 0):

Freshman Ava Fouts claimed her sixth win in the circle during the first game against Sewanee giving up only one hit with five strikeouts in five innings and she also showed up at the plate going 3-4 with two runs.

Berry scored in every inning on their way to run ruling the Tigers in their first conference game of the season.

In the first, Anna Jackson who was 4-4 on the day with one run and a crazy 7 RBI game, singled to send in Katie White and a fielders choice brought in first baseman Morgan Frye for the 2-0 lead.

Sydney Moroney's solo homerun started the top of the second inning and was followed by a Frye double to score a run and a two-run homer from Anna Jackson!

With the 6-0 lead across the first two innings, the Vikings never let up and wanted to close the game in five.

Jackson solidified the game in the fifth as a single turned into a three-run hit to push the score to 11.

Game Two (Berry 10 - Sewanee 1):

Hannah Gore came to the circle in the second game to complete the second game win with two hits, one run, and eight strikeouts.

Berry posted 20 hits in game two with Anna Jackson continuing to have a day!

Jackson began the game with a three-run homer in the third to put the first runs on the board for either team.

The scoring didn't continue until the fifth inning when the Vikings hit their fifth run after Katie Parker's double and Katie White's single (5-0).

Just when the game was looking like it would end at five to nothing, the Vikings had a huge top of the seventh with five runs before the Tigers were able to get three outs.

Casey Holloway started it out with a two run double on her way to going 2-2 at the plate today. Another double from Frye brought in Holloway and before the fans knew it, the score sat at 10-1.

Danielle Sudick got the last three outs on the SAA opponent to close the game and take the series before seeing them again on Sunday.

The Vikings will finalize the series against the Tigers on Sunday.
