Box Score 2 Rome, Ga. – The Berry College softball team returned home for a three-game conference series vs. Rhodes, winning two of the three games.
Berry improves to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in SAA play.
Madison Hollis would get the start in the circle for game won, pitching all seven innings, giving up two runs off seven hits. She would strikeout three batters.
The game remained scoreless until the seventh inning when Rhodes led things off with a single to left field followed by another single to score two runs. Berry would not respond in their last three outs of the game. Rhodes won 2-0.
Bayleigh Masterson,
Samantha Crabtree and
Riley Jackson each connected with a hit.
Meredith Holland got the start in game two and would improve to 6-1, pitching five innings and striking out six batters, only giving up one run.
Shirley Sharp would come in for relief in the sixth, pitching the final two innings and giving up just one run.
The bats came alive in the second game with Berry taking a quick 2-0 lead in the first. Rhodes would add a run in the fourth, but Berry answered back with six runs followed by a two-out rally single from
Shelby Daniel and triple from
Aleeya Thornton.
Rhodes would score one more run in the seventh, but Berry secured the 8-2 win.
Hollis would get the start in game three on Sunday, pitching six innings giving up three runs with three strikeouts. Holland would earn her first save of the season, coming in in the seventh inning with a 4-3 lead to face the Lynx. She would retire the side with two strikeouts and just one hit to secure the win for the Vikings.
Berry jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first with hits from Daniel, Thornton,
Morgan Frye and R. Jackson. Rhodes would respond in the third with one run, but
Anna Jackson connected with a bomb over center field to put the Vikings up 4-1, a run that ended being crucial in the win.
Rhodes rallied back and made it a 4-3 game late in the sixth, but Holland was able to fight off the Lynx and maintain the 4-3 lead for the Vikings.
