Volleyball Downs No. 7 UMW and Randolph-Macon on Friday

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Extending their win streak to three straight matches, the Berry College volleyball team defeated both Randolph-Macon and No. 7 ranked University of Mary Washington University on Friday night to open up play in the UMW Invitational.

The Vikings defeated Randolph-Macon 3-1, falling behind 19-25 in the first set before coming back to win the last three, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-14. Berry then swept Mary Washington 25-19, 25-23 and 25-23 in straight sets to round out the nightcap with a victory. In the wins, Berry collected 93 kills to opponents' 83.

  • The Vikings collected 23 blocks on the night, including 15 against Randolph-Macon, putting that at No. 4 in the Berry record book for team blocks (4 sets)
  • With the wins, Berry improves to 4-2 overall on the year.
  • Randolph-Macon falls to 4-1, and Mary Washington moves to 4-3 on the season.


The Vikings will continue play at the UMW Invitational tomorrow, with matches against Susquehanna and Johns Hopkins. Set one against Susquehanna begins at 2:00 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
