ROME, Ga. -- Berry College volleyball's Stephanie Quinn, a senior setter for the Vikings, has been selected to the roster for the USA DIII Women's Volleyball Team – Brazil Tour 2014.
The tour is run by USA Sports Tours & Events, and the team is made up of invited NCAA Division III volleyball players from throughout the United States. Team members have been recognized as All American, All Region and All Conference honorees.
"This is an outstanding group of volleyball players that come from 16 different state and 17 different colleges and universities from across the United States," said Ron Smith, Director of USA Sports Tours & Events says. "We feel that we have some of the best of the best representing almost every region in the country. These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom. They represent everything good that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer. "
Quinn completed her career in a Viking jersey this fall in stellar fashion. During her senior campaign, the Merritt Island senior was named SAA Offensive Player of the Week as well as the AVCA DIII National Player of the Week. She also became the sixth Viking to surpass 1,000 career digs and the first Viking to surpass 4,000 career assists. After helping lead her team to its second consecutive regular season and tournament SAA Championship, she was named the SAA Player of the Year, SAA First Team All Conference, AVCA All South Region, and AVCA Honorable Mention All American.
In addition, Quinn was named to the NCAA Atlanta Regional All Tournament Team after leading the Vikings to the NCAA Regional Semifinals in their first ever NCAA tournament appearance. Leaving her mark on the Berry Volleyball record books, Quinn is in the top ten for career hitting percentage, career digs, career aces, and career sets played, and she is the career record holder for career assists with 4,495.
The USA D-3 Men's & Women's Volleyball Teams will begin their Brazil Tour 2014 in Orlando, Florida on May 17th. The tour runs from May 17-26. After team orientation and practice in Orlando the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil on Sunday, May 18th. The USA D-3 Volleyball Teams will play doubleheader matches (Men & Women) on May 19, 20 and 21 in the state of Sao Paulo vs. selected teams from the region. On May 22nd the team travels to Rio de Janeiro for a match on May 23rd. The team will depart Brazil on the evening of May 25th and return to Orlando on May 26th.
While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
"We are thrilled that Stephanie has the opportunity to represent Berry and NCAA DIII on an international stage," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "She has contributed so much to our program and Berry as a whole over the last four years, and she will be a tremendous ambassador for our team, Berry, and the USA during her time in Brazil. I can't think of a better way to cap off an incredible career!"
