INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division III Women's Track and Field Committee announced Monday the participants in the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships, with sophomore thrower Genesis Leggett set to represent Berry in the women's weight throw.
This marks the first time in Berry Track and Field DIII program history that any student-athlete has qualified to compete in either the indoor or the outdoor NCAA Championships. Leggett qualified in the weight throw earlier this season, posting a 17.09-meter throw to earn a spot in the championships. An USTFCCCA All-Region Team member last year, as well as the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) 2017 Women's Field Athlete of the Year as a freshman, Leggett has already seen much success in just her one year as a Viking, and she continues to look to make history at the championship meet in Birmingham.
"This is a great milestone for Berry and our program," Head Track and Field Coach Luke Syverson said. "Genesis has improved significantly so far this year on top of her great freshman season. To qualify in throws as a sophomore is a strong statement of what is to come for her. This will be a great experience no matter the outcome."
The NCAA DIII Indoor Championships will take place beginning Friday, March 9 continuing through Saturday, March 10, with the women's weight throw competition set for Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
