ROME, Ga. — Berry College's head women's soccer coach, Lorenzo Canalis, is set to lead the USA DIII Women's Soccer team in Brazil next week. The team will feature six Berry women's soccer players.
Joining Canalis on the USA DIII Soccer tour are Berry's Vanessa Belanger, Carson Gilliam, Kirbi Mathews, Olivia Nye, Anna Salisbury and Kendall Scott. He will serve as the team's head coach for the tour.
The USA DIII Soccer Teams are invited NCAA Division III men’s and women’s players from across the country. The team is comprised of players recognized as All-Americans, All-Region and All-Conference. The 16 women’s players represent 8 different colleges and universities and come from 9 different home states.
The USA DIII Soccer tour will run from May 27 through June 5. The squads will begin with orientation in Orlando, Florida on May 27th before the team flies to Sao Paulo, Brazil that evening. The teams will practice on May 28th in the City of Jundiai before playing their first two matches on May 29 and 30 in the state of Sao Paulo.
They will then travel to Rio de Janeiro on Friday, May 31st. The teams will play their 3rd match on Saturday, June 1st and their 4th on Monday, June 3rd versus teams from Rio de Janeiro. The two USA DIII Soccer teams will be competing against top U-22 club teams from the States of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
