Berry Women's Soccer Announces 2019 Recruiting Class

ROME, Ga. — Berry College's head women's soccer coach, Lorenzo Canalis, announced on Tuesday the team's newcomers for the upcoming 2019 season. The Vikings open the season on Aug. 30 at Maine Maritime.

"This is our largest recruiting class ever and potentially the most talented," Canalis said. "We are strengthening each position on the field and developing keen competition for playing time. I know the returning players will be ready physically come preseason. They demonstrated their commitment throughout the year. If the incoming freshmen will match them in fitness, it will be a pleasure to coach this team."


Karsen Brantley

(F, 5-5, Marietta, Ga., Lassiter)

A three-time All-Region selection and Offensive MVP honoree, Brantley joins the Vikings after a four-year varsity career at Lassiter. She led her high school team to a state title and won three state championships for her club team.

The daughter of David and Alyssa Brantley, Karsen plans to major in pre-med.

 

Madison Cherry

(D, 5-7, Canton, Ga., Creekview)

A transfer student from Limestone College, Cherry joins the Vikings after a four-year varsity career at Creekview High School. She was a two-time All-Region selection and claimed All-County honors during her career, leading her team to three state playoff appearances.

The daughter of Steve and Kerrianne Cherry, Madison plans to major in pre-med.

 

Riley Clark

(D, 5-9, Marietta, Ga., George Walton)

Leading her team to a pair of state playoff appearances, Clark joins the Vikings after a four-year varsity career at George Walton. She also led her club team to a state title as a junior.

The daughter of Scott and Noel Clark, Riley plans to major in Spanish.

 

Margaux Flournoy

(M, 6-0, Grosse Pointe City, Mich., Grosse Pointe South)

A two-sport athlete also competing in tennis, Flournoy joins the Vikings after a standout career at Grosse Pointe South and numerous club teams.

The daughter of William and Natalie Flournoy, Margaux plans to major in animal science.

 

Lindsey Francingues

(F, 5-5, Cumming, Ga., South Forsyth)

A standout varsity competitor, Francingues joins Berry after claiming a pair of Best Midfielder Awards at South Forsyth.

The daughter of Ray and Lisa Francingues, Lindsey plans to major in marketing.  

 

Alli Gaither

(F, 5-6, Rome, Ga., Rome)

A local product out of Rome High School, Gaither joins the Vikings after a strong prep career. She led her team to the state playoffs three times, claiming All-Area twice. She tied the school record for goals in a single season with 41 as a junior, tallying 98 goals for her career with a shortened senior season. Gaither competed on numerous club teams including the local Rome Arsenal, the Southern Soccer Academy and the Darlington Soccer Academy.

The daughter of Sean and Julie Higgins, Alli plans to major in exercise science.

 

Maggie Jones

(GK, 5-4, Knoxville, Tenn., Bearden)

A two-time All-District and All-Region selection, Jones joins the Vikings after a standout career at Bearden High School. She earned selection to the Senior All-Star Game, leading her team to the sweet 16 as a junior and the final four as a senior. She also competed for the FC Alliance club team.

The daughter of Mark and Janet Jones, Maggie plans to major in exercise science.

 

Emma Kochanowski

(D, 5-8, Knoxville, Tenn., Knoxville Catholic)

Claiming four straight All-District honors and a pair of All-Region nods, Kochanowski joins the Vikings after a decorated career at Knoxville Catholic. Also a four-time Scholar Athlete, she led her team to a pair of district titles and a regional championship. She competed for the FC Alliance club team, claiming a state title in 2015.

The daughter of Jeff Kochanowski and Cheri Burnside, Emma plans to major in chemistry.

 

Emily Lafferty

(GK, 5-7, Port Orange, Fla., Spruce Creek)

Lafferty joins the Vikings out of Spruce Creek high school. She also had a decorated career for the Port Orange Soccer and Florida Elite NPL club teams, claiming a pair of championships.

The daughter of Brian Lafferty and Renee Bergin, Emily plans to major in animal science and religion.

 

Morgan Lee

(M, 5-6, Warner Robins, Ga., Warner Robins)

A four-year varsity team member, Lee joins the Vikings after a pair of All-Region selections including a team MVP honor. She led her team to a sweet 16 appearance as a junior, scoring 35 goals and 55 assists during her career.

The daughter of Barron and Lesley Sparks, Morgan plans to major in biology.

 

Annie Lukens

(M, 5-6, Knoxville, Tenn., Christian Academy of Knoxville)

Lukens joins Berry after a decorated prep career. She claimed a pair of All-Region and three straight All-District nods, including a District Defensive Player of the Year selection. She led her team to four straight state playoff appearances. Lukens competed for the Knoxville Football Club team.

The daughter of Wil and Jennifer Lukens, Annie plans to major in psychology.

 

Maggie Packard

(D, 5-3, Lawrenceville, Ga., Brookwood)

Packard joins the Vikings after a decorated career at Brookwood. She earned All-County Scholar Athlete recognition as a junior and was a three-year varsity team member. She led her team to a regional title and an elite eight appearance during her high school career. Packard was also a member of the GSA ECNL club team.

The daughter of Rick and Tonya Packard, Maggie plans to major in sociology.  

 

Ellie Sherrod

(D, 5-7, Birmingham, Ala., Briarwood Christian)

A four-sport athlete out of Briarwood Christian, Sherrod joins the Vikings after an All-Conference and Conference MVP selection during her senior year. She led Briarwood Christian to a state title as a junior and was a North-South All-Star selection as a senior. Sherrod competed for the BUSA Club team, winning the state title during her senior year.

The daughter of David and Veronica Sherrod, Ellie plans to major in animal science.

 

Tori Toellner

(M, 5-3, Milton, Fla., Pensacola Catholic)

Toellner joins the Vikings after a standout prep career. She was a four-year varsity starter, claiming All-Area honors during her junior and senior seasons. She also led her club team to three straight elite eight appearances.

 

Ashley Valentino

(D, 5-4, Evans, Ga., Greenbrier)

Leading her team to a pair of state playoff appearances, Valentino joins the Vikings after a four-year varsity career at Greenbrier High School. She competed on the Augusta Arsenal Soccer Club team.

The daughter of Joseph and Jennifer Valentino, Ashley plans to major in exercise science.

 

Maria Walsh

(F, 5-3, Cumming, Ga., South Forsyth)

Walsh joins the Vikings after leading her team in assists both junior and senior seasons. She also led the team to a state playoff appearance during her senior year while she also competed for the United Futbol Academy SCCL club team.

The daughter of Keith Walsh and Monica Frese, Maria plans to major in nursing.
