Women's Basketball Drops Conference Opener to Oglethorpe

ROME, Ga. — The Berry College women's basketball team fell to 0-1 in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Friday night, dropping their conference opener 52-39 to Oglethorpe University.

The loss drops the Vikings to 2-5 overall. Oglethorpe, the reigning SAA champions, improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.

It was not a night for shooters in the Cage Arena, as the teams combined for a 23.4% shooting percentage. Oglethorpe shot 25.4% while the Vikings hit 21.4% of their shots from the field.

Oglethorpe dominated the boards, led by reigning D3hoops.com Freshman of the Year Savannah LeGate who tied an Oglethorpe record with 22 rebounds. The sophomore also recorded 14 points for a double-double. In total, the Stormy Petrels out-rebounded the Vikings 55-36.

Berry was led by Capri Frazier who scored 12 points off the bench, shooting 5-for-9 from the field. Mary Walters and Alex Weems each scored nine points.

The Vikings made the most of their opportunities off misplays, scoring 14 points off OU's 19 turnovers.

Berry will return to action on Monday as they head to Mississippi University for Women for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
