Softball Closes Spring Break With Doubleheader Sweep of Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. — The Berry College softball team closed its spring break trip with a doubleheader sweep of Chapman, claiming game one 8-5 and game two 11-3. Berry now sits at 11-3 on the year.

Meredith Holland earned the start in game one, tossing 5.0 innings allowing just two earned runs. Makenzie Flynt started game two pitching 5.0 innings to earn the win.

GAME ONE:

  • Berry struck first on an RBI single in the first by Kayla Sangrey.
  • Berry went on to add two more runs in the second off another RBI single from Hunter Padgett and a Samantha Crabtree sacrifice fly.
  • The Vikings added two more runs off an RBI double by Brooke Whittemore to make it 5-0 at the start of the fourth.
  • Chapman fought back with a two RBI homer to make it 5-2.
  • Berry went on to add insurance in the fifth and seventh innings making it 8-2.
  • Chapman scored three more in the seventh, but Berry was able to hold on to the win.

GAME TWO:

  • Berry again scored first with two in the third and five in the fifth making it 7-0.
  • Chapman struck back with an RBI triple making it 7-1 to finish the fifth.
  • Berry scored four more in the seventh extending their lead to 10.
  • Chapman scored two more in the seventh but Berry kept their lead and went on to win 11-3.

Berry will head back home to face Huntingdon on Sunday at noon ET.
