Collop, Moore Sweep NFCA National Player of the Week Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - For just the second time in National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) history, the Berry College softball team has swept the national Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player-of-the-Week honors, the association announced on Wednesday.

Just a week after sweeping the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Player-of-the-Week awards, senior shortstop Sarah Moore and senior pitcher/first baseman Marie Collop have been named national Player and Pitcher-of-the-Week, respectively.

The only other school to ever sweep the national honors in a given week was DePauw University in 2015.

Led by Moore and Collop, the Vikings are off to a program-record 8-0 start to the season including back-to-back sweeps over top 10 teams. So far, Berry has outscored opponents 74-14 through their first eight games.

Moore, a Lookout Mountain, Ga., native, led the Berry College softball team to a perfect 4-0 weekend, as they swept both No. 7 Texas-Lutheran and No. 4 Emory University. In the Vikings' first matchup against the Bulldogs, Moore was 1-for-1 at the plate, knocking in two runs, scoring twice and adding two walks in the contest. Moore also finished the day with a stolen base, en route to Berry's run-rule 10-0 victory over Texas-Lutheran on Friday. In game two of the series, Moore added another base hit, scoring once and knocking in an RBI in the outing. She also finished with her second stolen base on the weekend.

Moore was 2-for-4 at the plate in the Vikings' first game against the reigning Regional Champions, Emory University, on Saturday. Moore knocked in two RBIs in the 4-3 victory, adding her second double of the weekend. In the nightcap win, Moore was 2-for-3 at the plate, adding four RBIs, as well as her third double of the week. She also scored once and added a stolen base.

On the week, Moore was 6-for-12 at the plate, scoring four runs on three doubles and six hits, while knocking in eight RBIs. She also walked twice, posting an on base percentage of .571, as well as a .750 slugging percentage. Hitting .476 on the year, Moore currently ranks first in the SAA in RBIs, with 11.

Collop, an Atlanta native, added two wins pitching for the Vikings. She earned the complete-game, run-rule victory over No. 7 Texas-Lutheran on Friday, tossing five innings in the outing, striking out seven, while notching her second consecutive no hitter of the season.

Collop then earned the complete game win against No. 4 Emory University on Saturday. Collop tossed an additional five innings for Berry, allowing only five hits and two earned runs in the contest, while striking out four. Collop held an Emory team that is averaging .625 at the plate on the year to just .250 in the outing.

On the year, Collop posts a perfect 3-0 record, striking out 18 batters in her 16 innings of work. She also ranks in the top five of the SAA in both ERA (1.75) and strikeouts on the year. Leading Berry to a perfect 8-0 start to their season, Collop held her nationally-ranked competitors to a mere .147 batting average on the weekend, while striking out 11 batters and allowing only five hits in her two outings.

The Vikings will compete against Covenant College on Wednesday afternoon at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
