DANVILLE, Ky. -- Kassie Howard got the win in relief and the Vikings got a lot of late offense in Berry College's 15-5 softball win at Centre College on Sunday.
With the victory Berry improved to 32-6 and closed Southern Athletic Association play with a 16-2 mark. The Vikings earned a share of their fourth straight conference regular season crown. (Birmingham-Southern also finished 16-2 in SAA play.)
The Vikings trailed 5-4 after three innings. BC plated two runs in the fourth frame before tacking on four runs in the sixth and scoring seven times in the seventh.
Berry outhit Centre, 14-7. Brittany Tuttle went 3-for-4 with three runs for the Vikes. Marie Collop hit 2-for-3 with a double, her team-leading ninth home run, three runs and four RBI. Brittany Ferrell was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored four times. Kenzie Fleming knocked her fifth homer of the year for the visitors.
Howard (23-2) replaced starter Allie Coronado in the third inning. She tossed 3 2/3 innings, recorded six strikeouts, allowed one hit and only one walk. Marie Collop worked the final inning in the circle for Berry.
For the Colonels, Ellen Stephens and Jessika Young both had two hits. Centre ends the regular season with a 9-9 SAA mark and dropped to 16-21 overall.
The Vikings will seek its second straight SAA Tournament Championship next weekend in Memphis, Tenn.
