Softball Sweeps at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Berry College softball team defeated Rhodes College twice on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 10-1 and 11-5.

The Vikings improved to 23-6 overall and 9-2 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Lynx fell to 18-12 and 4-10.

Marie Collop led the Vikings with three hits in game one. Collop was 3-for-4 at the plate. She scored once and added three RBIs for Berry.

Four other Vikes tallied two hits in the win as well: Brittany Ferrell, Brittany Tuttle, Sarah Moore and Kenzie Fleming. Fleming hit a home run in the victory, adding three RBIs.

Kassie Howard (21-3) earned the complete-game win on the mound. Howard tossed six innings, allowing only one hit and one run, while striking out nine in the outing. She gave up a double and the unearend run in the sixth frame.

For the Lynx, Jill Healy tabbed the only hit of the game. Christine Hume earned the RBI for Rhodes, hitting in Healy in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Berry scored in four of the six innings, maintaining their lead throughout the entire game.

Moore led the BC offense in game two, batting 3-for-4 with four RBIs at the plate. Moore also scored three times for the Vikings as well.

Ferrell and Collop each added two hits in the win as well. Ferrell was 2-for-3 on the day and scored three runs. Collop was 2-for-3 as well. She scored once and knocked in two RBIs.

Moore, Collop and Elisabeth Federici each added a home run for Berry.

The Vikings scored five runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.

Allie Coronado (10-3) earned the win in the circle. Coronado tossed all seven innings, allowing nine hits and five runs, while striking out four on the afternoon.

For Rhodes, Caroline Reilly led the offense in game two with two hits, two RBIs and a home run in the loss. 

The Vikings will finish their three-game series at Rhodes tomorrow at 12 p.m.
