Softball Earns Split vs. BSC

ROME, Ga. – The Berry College softball team split with SAA-rival Birmingham-Southern College on Friday afternoon. The Panthers won game one, 4-3. The Vikings took the nightcapt, 4-0.

The games moved BC to 21-5 overall and 7-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. BSC is now 19-6 and 9-2.

Kenzie Fleming led the Viking offense in game one with two hits. Fleming was 2-for-3 at the plate. She also added one RBI in the win.

Five other players added a hit in the win: Brittany Ferrell, Brittany Tuttle, Sarah Moore, Marie Collop and Elisabeth Federici. Collop and Federici each added an RBI as well.

The Panthers scored all of their runs in the first two innings.

Berry then added one run in the bottom of the fourth, followed by two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The tying run was on first but a ground out to second base ended the game.

Allie Coronado (5-4) took the loss on the mound. Coronado threw one and 1/3 inning, allowing eight hits and four runs. Kassie Howard finished the game, allowing three hits, while striking out five batters.

Taylor Harkins (10-2) earned the win in the circle for BSC. Harkins threw six innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out seven. 

In the second game, the Vikings plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win, 4-0.

Collop led the Berry offense in the win. She was 1-for-3 and knocked in two RBIs for the Vikings.

Moore, Fleming, Federici and Ally Claytor finished off the Viking offense with one hit apiece. Federici and Moore knocked in the final runs for Berry.

Kassie Howard (15-1) earned the complete-game win on the mound. Howard allowed four hits and four walks, while striking out seven in the game.

The series finishes tomorrow at Ford Field. The single game is slated for 12 p.m.
