ROME, Ga. -- Collecting 19 hits in the two games, the Berry College women's softball team defeated Huntingdon College twice in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. Game scores were 12-3 in five innings, and 7-0.
The wins improve the Vikings to 20-4 overall. The losses drop the Hawks to 12-12.
Marie Collop led the BC offense in game one with two hits, three RBI and one run scored.
Brittany Ferrell and Elisabeth Federici each added two hits in the win as well. Ferrell was 2-for-2 and scored twice for the Vikes. Federici was also 2-for-2 and added 2 RBI and one run in the victory.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Vikings answered and plated four runs in the bottom of the third.
After a two-run top of the fourth for HC, Berry plated eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to finish the game in five innings.
Allie Coronado started the game in the circle for Berry. Coronado threw three and one-third innings. She allowed five hits and three runs.
Kassie Howard earned the win on the mound. She tossed one and two-third innings for the Vikings, allowing no hits and no runs.
Three players tallied two hits in the second game: Tuttle, Collop and Kenzie Fleming. Tuttle was 2-for-3 at the plate and knocked in one RBI. Collop was 2-for-4 in the win, and Fleming was 2-for-3.
Sarah Moore, Federici and Claytor rounded out the Berry offense with one hit apiece.
Howard (14-1) bested her strikeout record on the mound in the second game, whiffing 15 batters in the outing. Howard threw all seven innings, allowing two hits and two walks in the win.
For the Hawks, Daisha Henderson and Chelsea Messer earned the only two hits of the game.
The Vikings will host SAA-rival Birmingham-Southern College on Friday, March 25. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. The doubleheader will also be Senior Day for Shakarah Boswell and Coronado.
