LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association is proud to announce the 2014 NFCA Division III All-Region softball teams. This year's squad is comprised of three teams in each of the country's eight NCAA regions. Shelby Smith and Abby Daniels of Berry College have been named to the Atlantic Region second team.
Smith was recently named SAA Player of the Year, First Team All-SAA and to the SAA Tournament Team as a first baseman. She batted .467, knocked in 20 doubles (program record), three triples and seven home runs, 37 RBI and also held a .994 fielding percentage. Smith held an impressive .486 on-base percentage with an additional .815 slugging percentage. Last year, she was listed as SAA Honorable Mention as an outfielder. Smith was also named to the SAA Spring 2013 Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll as well as NFCA All-America Scholar.
Also a sophomore, Daniels was named First Team All-SAA as a catcher. Daniels batted .433, knocked 15 doubles, three triples and four home runs, 45 RBI and also held a .992 fielding percentage. She held a .462 on-base percentage with an additional .679 slugging percentage.As a freshman, she was named First Team All-SAA and SAA Newcomer of the Year. Last year, Daniels was also named to the SAA Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll as well as NFCA All-America Scholar.
Last month, both Smith and Daniels were named to the CoSIDA District 5 team.
Berry College posted an overall record of 31-11--a program best--and an 18-4 conference mark. The Vikings also earned a second straight SAA regular season championship title.
