ROME, Ga. -- Berry College swept a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader from visiting Hendrix on Saturday. Game scores were 7-4 and 14-1 in a five-inning game.
The Vikings moved to 21-7 and 10-2. The Warriors dropped to 13-11, 7-4.
In game one, BC rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Warriors. The Vikings plated two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth en route to the victory.
Kayla Davis (8-2) pitched a complete game and got the win in the circle for Berry. She allowed three runs scattered seven hits and walked one hitter.
Catelyn Gibbs and Michaela Larabee had two hits apiece for the Warriors.
In the nightcap, Berry came out victorious defeating the Warriors 14-1. Strong hitting and solid pitching pushed the Vikings to the 13-run difference. Allie Coronado (6-3) earned her sixth win of the season. Hendrix starter, Kayla Patton (9-6) picked up the loss.
Berry tallied 17 hits out of the 28 total at bats. The first five hitters in the lineup collected nine of the 17 hits alone. Of those five, Shelby Smith (3-4, 2 runs) cracked two doubles and a single and drove in three runs. Abby Daniels (2-3) collected a double, one triple. Allison DeBusk and Sarah Brown tacked on three hits each and drove in six combined runs.
Coronado pitched the entire length of the game going five strong innings by only giving up two hits. She only gave up one run, but it was unearned. She collected two strikeouts and got 12 of the 20 batters faced to ground-out.
BC returns to Ford Field to square off against conference rivals Hendrix in a pink-out doubleheader game starting at noon April 6. Pink t-shirts are available for a small donation and the auction will conclude on Sunday.
