Softball "Pink Day" battles cancer

Softball "Pink Day" battles cancer

ROME, Ga. -- Berry College softball celebrates Pink Day on Sunday, April 6 when Hendrix College visits Ford Field.

Berry's efforts will contribute to two worthy causes. Half of the proceeds earned at the Berry events will be donated to the Festival of Life, celebrating Kelly Moore's battle with cancer. She has been battling cancer since 2011. Kelly is mother to Berry softball player, Sarah Moore.

The other half of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Societys' Hope Lodge. There are currently 31 Hope Lodge locations throughout the United States.  The Lodge provides a free place to stay for cancer patients and their care-givers when their treatment may be in a city far from home.  Not having to worry about where to stay or how to pay for lodging allows guests to focus on getting well.  The Hope Lodge provides a nurturing, home-like environment where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others.

The Pink Out will provide several opportunities to contribute.  100-percent of the gate admission for Sunday's games will be donated by the Berry Athletic Department.  Admission to the games will cost $5, which includes a free, pink t-shirt.  There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction at Sunday's games.

A pre-silent auction will start today and end on Friday, April 4th at 5 p.m.  The pre-auction allows you to bid through email on your favorite items. The silent auction will re-open at the Berry Softball games on Sunday, April 6th. The auction will conclude following the double header.  Sample items include: Georgia vs. Auburn football tickets; Atlanta Braves Tickets; Rome Braves Tickets; a Berry Eagle Canvas; themed gift baskets, and many more amazing items!
