MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Berry College men's and women's tennis teams are set to begin another season tomorrow afternoon as the teams head to Mercer University.
The men's team finished last year 10-8 overall, as well as 2-5 in conference play, falling to the Lynx of Rhodes College 5-1 in the SAA tournament. Sophomore Griffin Davis rounded out the year earning second-team All-Conference honors after finishing the year 10-8 at the No. 2 singles spot for Berry. Davis returns to the court for the Vikings again this season alongside senior captain Chase Gooding who looks to lead the young team to a strong year.
The women's team finished 8-9 overall last season, as well as 2-5 in the SAA. Seniors Lauren Byrket and Mary Cerny were each named to the All-SAA second-team following the season, boasting 12-5 and 10-7 singles records, respectively. Emmie Cornell will be the lone senior on the roster for Berry this season, finishing with a 5-8 singles record and a 7-10 doubles record last year. Three freshmen will join the roster for the 2018 season.
The men's first home match of the year will be on Thursday, March 8 against Roanoke, beginning at 3:30 p.m., while the women's first home contest of the year will be on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m. against Agnes Scott College.
