ATLANTA – The Berry College men’s and women’s tennis teams split on Saturday, as the women fell to Oglethorpe 8-1, but the men bested the Stormy Petrels 5-4 in an SAA match.
Sydney Stone defeated DeLaney Abrood 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 Singles spot to earn the women’s team’s sole victory of the day.
Both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams for the men’s side earned victories for Berry on Saturday. Matt Blakely (7-5, 4-6, 6-4), Jordan Crance (6-3, 6-3) and Chase Gooding (6-7, 6-2, 6-0) then each added singles victories for the Vikings as well to ensure the win.
With the win, the men’s team improves to 5-3 overall on the year, as well as 1-0 in the SAA. The women’s team falls to 4-3 and 0-1.
The women’s team will host Agnes Scott in a match tomorrow at home, beginning at 1:00 p.m., and both teams will then head to Memphis, Tenn., to take on Rhodes College in an SAA matchup on Friday, March 30 at 10:00a.m.
