Swim & Dive Finishes Fourth at SAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Vikings swim & dive teams wrapped up SAA competition on Saturday night, led by Brooke Boyd and Michael Bemis who both took first place in their events. Both teams finished fourth in the conference. 

Boyd opened the night with a first place finish in the 1650 freestyle, defending her championship title from last year. Her time of 17:16.96 was 20 seconds ahead of the next finisher, and is a national qualifying time. Emma O’Heron also had a top-eight finish in the event with a time of 18:19.32.

O’Heron then placed sixth in the 200 backstroke for the women. On the men’s side, Dylan White touched second, with Bo Dyar and Cyrus Nabavi following him with fifth and sixth place finishes. 

The 100 yard freestyle was headlined by Haley Brown, who placed second for the women and Michael Bemis who finished first for the second consecutive year. Brown’s time of 51.35 is a national qualifying time. 

Lily Jenkins and Josie Hadaway represented the women in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing fourth and sixth respectively. Tyler Stevenson and Laramie Sellers competed in consolation finals for the Vikings. 

Berry had strong swims on both sides in the 200 butterfly. Sarah Pierce finished second for the women, setting a new school record with a time of 2:09.00. Cali Fillmer rounded out the championship heat with a seventh place finish. For the men, Cory Mullins had another second place finish with a time of 1:53.66, followed by Cole Beddingfield who touched fourth. 

The Vikings closed out competition with the 400 freestyle relay, with both teams finishing fourth in the event. The women, Brown, J. Hadaway, Pierce and Boyd swam to a 3:33.57. White, Nabavi, Jackson Parker and Bemis represented the men with a time of 3:06.83.

The SAA Championship meet concludes the season for the Vikings.
