ROME, Ga. – McKinley Gannon scored four goals, as the Berry College men's lacrosse team defeated Birmingham-Southern College 16-9 in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup on Saturday night.
The Panthers scored the first goal of the night, but the Vikings answered, scoring nine unanswered goals, while allowing just one more BSC score before the end of the first half, leading 9-2 at halftime. Both teams finished the contest with seven second-half goals, but the Vikings' early lead was enough to ensure the 16-9 victory.
Gannon's four goals led all scorers on the night, with four other Vikings adding at least two tallies in the contest. Both Carson Buckner and Carter Watkins led Birmingham-Southern's offense, adding two goals apiece in the loss.
Riley Brogdon (5-2) earned the win in goal for Berry, collecting nine saves in his 56:05 of work, while allowing seven goals on 16 shots. Matt Quill (8-5) took the loss in goal for the Panthers, adding nine saves in his 50:37 of work, while allowing 15 goals on 24 shots. The Vikings also dominated faceoffs, winning 22-27 total with Josh Baker winning 18-23 himself.
With the win, Berry improves to 11-3 overall on the year, as well as 4-1 in conference play. Birmingham-Southern dropped to 8-5 and 1-3.
