SEWANEE, Tenn. — Seven Vikings tallied as the Berry College men's lacrosse team defeated the Sewanee Tigers 14-12 on Saturday, securing a first-round bye and hosting rights in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournament.

Berry improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in league play, the team's best conference record since 2015.

Sewanee opened with a pair of quick goals to take a 2-0 advantage in the first minute of play. Both team's then traded blows until the score sat at 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Luke Koferl opened scoring in the second period, but neither team could pull away as the score remained at a single-goal differential at halftime.

The Tigers went on a three-goal run out of the half, but would only score once more in the final 19:40 of competition. Tightening up on defense, Berry would rattle off seven more goals to earn the come-from-behind victory.

Berry was led offensively by Justin Westbrook, Luek Koferl and Chris Berchock who each scored three goals apiece. Riley Brogdon earned the win in cage, collecting seven saves and allowing just four goals in 30 minutes of work.
